Usually in Sri Lanka you can get special discount during the April New Year season, and the again during Christmas. You can book your lodgings through seasonal offers. This really ought to save you some good money.

  1. Avoid Peak Seasons

This is the most known trick in  the book. Hotel charges skyrocket during the peak seasons of tourism. Even food, and other packages will be quite expensive. You will be able to save big by travelling in the less traveled months. You will not only enjoy the benefit of discounts, but also a calm and a quiet atmosphere to unwind.

  1. Pack light

Once you make up your mind to travel, you should make up your mind to pack only the travel essentials. Extra bags will not only cost you at the baggage counter, but it will also limit your travel options, causing unnecessary expenses. You will have to constantly worry about carrying your luggage around. Instead pack your essentials, a variety of clothes that suit all types of climates. And you will be good to go!

  1. Avoid dining outside, unless necessary

If you are staying at a BnB restaurant, do not skip the free breakfast for the sake of having something different. A single meal can save you a few bucks you could spend on another meal. You can fix your own smoothies and sandwiches to serve as snacks. The key is to avoid fancy food joints, unless you really think you need a treat.

  1. Make your own souvenirs

When we say make, it doesn’t mean to go out of your way grab paint and make art. Instead, turn little things into souvenirs. You don’t need to walk into a souvenir shop with products with Sri Lanka labeled all over them to carry a piece of the journey home with you. Look for little things, like sea shells, twigs, pressed flowers that are an actual part of your journey. You will not regret the story behind the piece you take home, and you will have something to cherish without unnecessary costs.

  1. Avoid mainstream accommodation

Most of us make the mistake of being drawn to expensive hotels associated with different places of travel, and we end up travelling for the better part of the day and spend less than a few hours in the hotel after we’ve spend an unnecessary amount of money. Opt to spending nights in Wild Life Department owned bungalows, Houses rented out by private owners, and if you are feeling adventurous hire some camping gear and sleep under the stars.
Travelling on a budget is not as hard as you would think it is. By reading our list, you’ve probably figured out that you can save money on the little things that go unnoticed.
